Help us build the foundations for superintelligence that is safe by design

RESI is an independent nonprofit research institute committed to fundamental research, with the focus and flexibility to respond quickly as AI develops.

Our greatest need is support for people. Donations will enable us to bring in more researchers, especially postdocs and junior researchers, and further accelerate our research using AI.

How to contribute

To discuss support and the research it would enable, contact funding@resi.org. We also welcome compute credits, infrastructure support, and donated professional expertise, including specialists working alongside our team.

Why support matters now

There is a limited window in which the fundamental architecture and norms surrounding advanced AI are still being determined.

As AI systems become deeply embedded in science, medicine, finance, and everyday life, retrofitting safety mechanisms will become harder. It may also become harder to establish effective legal and institutional safeguards once these systems and the economic dependencies around them are entrenched.

RESI is developing the intellectual foundations for trustworthy AI. The best time to do this work is now, while these systems are being built.

What your support enables

Careers in independent AI safety research

Support gives postdocs and junior researchers time to pursue foundational questions alongside the RESI team.

We aim to sustain research careers with intellectual freedom and adequate compensation.

Compute and tools to develop and test ideas

Compute and research infrastructure support implementations, proofs of concept, and AI-assisted research.

Reliable access to compute lets researchers plan and run experiments when they need to.

Why RESI

Being an independent nonprofit allows us to ask the questions of what is truly required for increasingly powerful AI to remain trustworthy, controllable, and beneficial without our work being influenced by financial targets or business goals.

Our working groups and seminars bring together researchers across disciplines and career stages. This allows for knowledge transfer between senior and junior researchers. And it promotes the exchange of ideas, the formation of new concepts, and healthy debate between different subject matter experts. RESI focuses on bringing senior experts into superintelligence safety, as our work is built on their research and the knowledge they’ve gained throughout their careers.
